Simitian elected to second term as County Board President

SAN JOSE -- District Five Supervisor Joe Simitian has been unanimously elected President of the Board of Supervisors for the second consecutive year.  Supervisor Cindy Chavez was elected Vice-President, also for the second year.  The selection of Board officers took place at the Board meeting earlier today.

The Board President presides at Board meetings and sets direction for initiatives, goals and outcomes for the year in which he or she is serving. The Board President also assigns Board members to committees and approves the agendas before meetings.

Simitian will also serve as Chair of the County’s Health and Hospitals Committee, and as Vice-Chair of the Housing, Land Use, Environment and Transportation Committee.  Simitian will also Chair the County’s Federal Affairs Advocacy Task Force.

Simitian is expected to deliver State of the County remarks in the coming months; a date has not yet been set.
