Santa Clara County Supervisors support affordable housing for adults with disabilities in neighboring San Mateo County
Santa Clara County supports development of affordable housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Portola Valley (in San Mateo County). The County’s action provides $1.5 million from its Stanford Affordable Housing Fund.
Plans for West Valley health clinic move forward
The Board of Supervisors voted to continue to pursue plans to develop a full-service County health clinic on the De Anza College campus in Cupertino.
Investing in our community by providing affordable housing
We need to build more housing – and more affordable housing – to ensure that folks don't get pushed out of our area simply because they can no longer afford to stay. On our County Board of Supervisors I’ve worked to increase funding for affordable housing, and to address the root causes of homelessness. I’ve championed affordable housing specifically for local agricultural workers, teachers, adults with disabilities, and low-income residents, because the needs are different sector to sector. I’m excited to see these efforts now come to fruition.
County moves to make breast cancer screenings more accessible
Santa Clara County is taking steps to make breast cancer screenings more accessible to more County residents. County Supervisor Joe Simitian authored the proposal to improve early detection of breast cancer.
Supervisors expand passport services for the West Valley
West Valley residents will soon have more options for passport services following the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors’ vote to add additional staffing at the County’s Saratoga Library. The Saratoga Library is on its way to becoming an official passport facility. Saratoga will join the Cupertino and Los Altos libraries in offering much-needed passport services in the North County and West Valley.

Supervisors boost services for veterans
The Santa Clara County’s Office of Veterans Services (VSO) will add new Veterans Service Representatives (VSRs) to allow more veterans to get connected to their earned benefits. County Supervisors Joe Simitian and Otto Lee proposed the additional staffing to support local veterans and their families in accessing the federal benefits they have earned.
West Valley "teacher housing" effort progresses
The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors selected a nonprofit development partner to build affordable housing for teachers and school staff in the West Valley. County Supervisors Joe Simitian and Otto Lee proposed the effort to enable local teachers and school staff to live in the communities they serve.
Supervisors commend Saratoga Fire Protection District for 100 years of service to community
The Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian recognizes Saratoga Fire Protection District’s centennial. The Saratoga Fire Protection District is an independent special district that was established on February 18, 1924.
