Improvements Coming to North County and West Valley Bridges

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors recently voted to move forward with a Bridge Preventive Maintenance Project to maintain the safety and integrity of Aldercroft Creek Bridge at Old Santa Cruz Highway in Los Gatos and Los Trancos Creek Bridge at Arastradero Road located along the County line with San Mateo County.

“Bridge maintenance is just one of the ways our County helps makes our roadways safer for drivers and cyclists,” said County Supervisor Joe Simitian, whose District includes the West Valley and North County where these two bridges are located. “A sturdy bridge ensures smooth everyday travel and safe evacuation routes during an emergency. This is especially true for Old Santa Cruz Highway, which can be an alternative route to State Highway 17.”

A contract was awarded to American Civil Constructors West Coast, LLC to repair roadway approach settlement, waterproof, repair spalling cement, and replace joint seals to extend the useful life of each bridge. Work on the bridges should be completed by mid-November.

“Deferred maintenance is costly and risky,” said Simitian, who serves on the County’s Housing, Land Use, Environment, and Transportation (HLUET) Committee. “This kind of work is essential.”
