Simitian Appoints Stephanie Martinson to County National Guard and Veterans Affairs Commission

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian today announced the appointment of Stephanie Martinson to the County National Guard and Veterans Affairs Commission.

“Stephanie has a long-standing commitment to improving her community,” Simitian said. “Her knowledge and expertise is going to be invaluable to the work of the Commission and of the County.”

Martinson, who makes her home in Palo Alto, works as a speech pathologist at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Health Care System. She is also the founder of Racing Hearts, an organization dedicated to ensuring that Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) are available at high risk locations to help save lives during sudden cardiac arrest.

“My professional experience working at the Palo Alto VA for the past 11 years gives me insight and knowledge about veterans and their medical issues,” said Martinson, “These issues effect not only the patients and their families, but our entire community as well.”

The County’s National Guard and Veterans Affairs Commission was established in 1955 to aid and encourage public support for veterans’ affairs, and to promote policies and programs serving veterans.

“I bring not only my healthcare expertise, but also a sincere connection and empathy towards our veterans,” said Martinson. “I truly enjoy hearing veterans’ stories about their lives and the service they’ve given to our country. I want to be an advocate on their behalf.”

“We have a responsibility to those who’ve served,” said Simitian. “That starts with making sure that veterans have a qualified and compassionate advocate like Stephanie working on their behalf.”
