County Supervisors recognize Vicki Reeder as '2023 Los Altan of the Year'

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors this week recognized Vicki Reeder for her many years of volunteerism in the City of Los Altos and the wider Santa Clara County community.

County Supervisor Joe Simitian, who made the motion to honor Reeder, described her as a leader and staunch defender of women’s equality and women’s rights, and a passionate community activist in Los Altos.

The Los Altos Town Crier (LATC) named Reeder its 2023 Los Altan of the Year, which is modeled after Time magazine’s person of the year and honors residents whose community volunteer work has been sustained and impactful.

“Vicki is well-known and well-respected in Los Altos for her dedication to serving her community,” said Simitian, a longtime guest emcee of the Los Altos Follies, an annual music parody fundraiser for the Los Altos Stage Company, on which Reeder serves as Board president. “For three decades, her contributions have made an impact, whether it was in the arts or on social issues. Simply put: Vicki Reeder is a force of nature.”

Reeder has written, produced, and performed in the Los Altos Follies, which combines music, satire, and politics and has raised more than $500,000 for the Stage Company during its 28-year run. This year's show takes place October 3-5 at the Bus Barn Theater in Los Altos.

“This recognition is a little overwhelming, but I'm grateful to the Board of Supervisors and especially Joe for this honor,” said Reeder. “It certainly never occurred to me that my passion for the arts, political activism, equality for women and community involvement would get noticed by our County leaders.”

“The residents of Los Altos – and our County – are better off because of Vicki’s creativity, passion, and leadership,” said Simitian. “My thanks to Vicki, not only for her work building a thriving local theatre scene, but for her decades of commitment to defending women’s equality and women’s rights.”

Reeder will be honored at an event hosted by the Los Altos Town Crier on March 7. The celebration is open to the public with advance registration by contacting Maria Crowder at the LATC: [email protected]. A portion of the registration fee will be donated to the Roy Lave Memorial Fund at Los Altos Stage Company.  The registration deadline is March 1.
