County funds renovation of Spagnoli Tank House at Los Altos History Museum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to fund the renovation and rehabilitation of the 101-year-old Spagnoli Tank House at the Los Altos History Museum.

“Our Valley rightfully takes pride in its 21st Century role as a technology and thought leader,” said County Supervisor Joe Simitian, “but there’s a history here we would do well to remember and learn from. It’s just so important that we protect these pieces of our history for future generations.”

Leaks in the water tower roof prompted the Association of the Los Altos History Museum to apply for a grant to fund the restoration. The $100,000 grant from the County will be used to repair and renovate the Tank House roof, tank, and platform, and to add original style shiplap siding.

The tank house was originally built in 1917, and was moved from the original Spagnoli property, at what is now the Terraces at Los Altos Senior Living Community, to the History Museum in 1993.
