COVID-19 can't stop love

SAN JOSE – As of April 30, the state of California has authorized adults to obtain marriage licenses via videoconferencing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Santa Clara County staff have worked to implement the executive order, and things are now in place for the County to begin issuing marriage licenses as well as conduct ceremonies via videoconferencing for the next 60 days (commencing April 30).

County Supervisor Joe Simitian said he was publicizing the new County service in order to, “help local residents whose plans may have been disrupted,” but also because, “it’s a little piece of good news, and right now, we could all use a little more of that.”

Pursuant to  the state executive order, both members of the couple must be located within California, be present for the videoconference, and present identification. A marriage license can then be issued via email.
