Simitian Invites Constituents to Weigh-in on County Expressway Planning

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian is encouraging community members to attend the County Roads and Airports Department’s “open houses” to learn about the Expressways Improvement Plan (Expressway Plan 2040) and to share their ideas for what changes or improvements are needed.

“We are making efforts to provide convenient access for the public to ask questions and provide early input into the planning process,” said Simitian, who is a member of the Policy Advisory Board guiding the Expressway Plan 2040 process. “I hope expressway users will contribute – they’re the ones who really know what’s going on during those hellish commutes.”

The County of Santa Clara operates 62 miles of expressways traveling through 11 cities and serving nearly 1.5 million vehicles daily.  Designed to relieve local streets and supplement the freeway system, the eight expressways are:  Almaden Expressway, Capitol Expressway, Central Expressway, Foothill Expressway, Lawrence Expressway, Montague Expressway, Oregon Expressway/Page Mill Road, and San Tomas Expressway.

The Expressway Plan’s Policy Advisory Board consists of County Supervisors Simitian and Mike Wasserman, one Council Member each from participating cities, two VTA Board of Directors members, and two members of the County Roads Commission.  The Plan is expected to be completed by June 2015.

The County will host the open houses at the following times and locations:
