County to provide recurring COVID-19 testing

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian today announced that beginning this week, the County will be providing appointment-based COVID-19 testing on a consistently scheduled, rotating basis. Test sites in District Five cities include Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Saratoga, and Sunnyvale.

“Convenience is key,” said Simitian, who represents District Five and serves as the Chair of County’s Health and Hospital Committee. “If we want more people to be tested, providing locally available and convenient sites is essential,” he said.

Testing will be conducted from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the following dates at the following locations in August and September:

• Cupertino – Cupertino Senior Center - 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino, CA 95014 (1^st and 3^rd Wednesdays – August 5, August 19, September 2, and September 16);
• Los Altos – Los Altos Youth Center - 1 N. San Antonio Rd, Los Altos, CA 94022 (2^nd Thursdays – August 13 and September 10);
• Los Altos Hills – Los Altos Hills Town Hall - 26379 W. Fremont Blvd., Los Altos Hills, CA 94022 (1^st Fridays – August 7 and September 4);
• Mountain View – Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts - 500 Castro Street, Mountain View, CA 94041 (1^st and 3^rd Tuesdays – August 4, August 18, September 1, and September 15);
• Palo Alto – Palo Alto Art Center Auditorium - 1313 Newell Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303 (2^nd and 4^th Fridays – August 14, August 28, September 11, and September 25);
• Saratoga – Saratoga Friendship Hall - 19841 Prospect Road, Saratoga, CA 95070 (4^th Thursdays – August 27 and September 29); and,
• Sunnyvale – Murphy Park - 260 N. Sunnyvale Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086 (2^nd and 4^th Mondays – August 10, August 24, September 14, and September 28).

For these County operated testing venues, tests are free, and no health insurance or doctor’s note is required.

“Transitioning to a regular, rotating schedule is helpful for those who’d like predictability in testing,” said Simitian. “Residents will now be able to know when testing will be available in their community, and can more easily plan in advance.”

Simitian added that, “Our city governments have been terrific partners – helping with testing locations, logistics, and personnel. We can do so much more when we work together this way.”

Appointments will be required to use this new service.

You can make an appointment from your phone or from a computer using a web browser other than Internet Explorer. Appointments will be open for scheduling three days before the testing date. Once all appointments are filled, the location will no longer appear for scheduling on the website. Schedule an appointment online. 

“The County has moved to an appointment-based system in order to ensure people can be tested promptly, without having to wait in long lines, or even worse, discovering they would have to come back another time,” said Simitian.
