COVID-19 testing coming to Sunnyvale

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian today announced a new community-wide testing site in Sunnyvale offered by Santa Clara County. The mobile testing van and/or “pop-up” testing will be at Murphy Park from Tuesday June 30th through Thursday July 2nd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

For this County operated testing venue, tests are free, no appointment is necessary, and tests are provided regardless of where someone lives. These tests are intended for members of the community who do not have symptoms.

“We’re finally getting some traction on testing,” said Simitian. “It’s not yet as much as I’d like to see, and it’s certainly not as fast as I’d like to see, but it’s progress.”

“We appreciate the continued partnership between the Santa Clara County Health Department and Sunnyvale City Staff to bring free COVID-19 testing to Sunnyvale and North County residents,” said Sunnyvale Mayor Larry Klein. “Adequate testing and tracing are a critical requirement as we move forward with opening up our cities and County.”

Planned Parenthood

Earlier this week, Simitian announced a permanent COVID-19 testing location in Mountain View through a partnership between the County and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte is now providing no-cost testing at its drive-thru testing site Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shoreline Athletic Fields parking lot located at 2450 Garcia Avenue.

Insurance is not required to be tested at Planned Parenthood; however, community members with insurance should bring their insurance information. The State of California has mandated that all health insurance plans cover 100% of the COVID-19 test with no copays or deductibles paid by the individual. For more information, visit testmv.plan-your-care.org.

El Camino Health

Testing is also now available to those who work, live, or go to school in the El Camino Healthcare District at El Camino’s 2500 Grant Road location in Mountain View. The District includes most of Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and a large portion of Sunnyvale.

Appointments are required to get a test at El Camino. Tests may be scheduled by calling 650-940-7022, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit elcaminohealth.org/covid19testing.

“Convenience is key,” said Simitian. “If we want more people to be tested, making locally available and convenient sites is essential.”
