Simitian appoints June Klein to County Behavioral Health Board

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian today announced the appointment of Dr. June Klein to the County’s Behavioral Health Board.

“June has a long-standing commitment to improving her community,” Simitian said. “And a set of skills and experiences that make her particularly well qualified to address the issues of mental health in our community.”

Simitian particularly took note of the fact that Klein is VP of business affairs and CFO at Palo Alto University, which is dedicated to education in the behavioral and social sciences. Klein received her Doctorate in Education at Fielding Graduate University in 2010. She also has an MBA from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at U.C. Berkeley, and received her bachelor’s degree from U.C. Santa Barbara.

Klein, who makes her home in Palo Alto, has served in leadership positions at both local and international organizations, including the Palo Alto Family YMCA, the Gunn High School Foundation, and the Palo Alto Foundation for Education. She is also a member of Project Safety Net, a community network fostering youth well-being in Palo Alto.

“I’ve encountered and studied stigma in our community and elsewhere as part of my work for the last 14 years,” said Klein. “I want to elevate mental health to the same level as physical health, especially for kids, as a component of our constituents’ well-being.”

The County’s Behavioral Health Board advises the Board of Supervisors on matters of behavioral health services, and acts as a forum for clients and families about the needs and quality of mental health services. The Behavioral Health Board is made up of members of the community at large, clients and family members of clients of the behavioral health system.
