‘That's a Wrap’ for Page Mill Road congestion relief project

SAN JOSE – The completion of traffic improvements on Page Mill Road at Hanover Street – a major Palo Alto intersection – aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving pedestrian and bicycle safety was accepted by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors this week.

The intersection improvements, completed by Redgwick Construction Company, included opening a second westbound left turn lane on Page Mill Road, re-phasing the intersection to improve the flow of traffic, upgrading pedestrian pushbuttons to make them contactless and accessible for the blind, and installing ADA-compliant ramps at the intersection crosswalks. Altogether, these road improvements were intended to improve both safety and traffic flow.

“This is something commuters, cyclists, and pedestrians in the region will benefit from for years,” said County Supervisor Joe Simitian, whose District Five includes Palo Alto. “While we may not be able to fully eliminate traffic congestion, meaningful improvements to curb it – like this project – really go a long way. And the safety upgrades are an absolute must."

Funding for the $1 million in improvements on Page Mill Road came from a combination of 2016 Measure B Expressway Funds and an agreement with the City of Palo Alto.
